Adventures in France

We spent a few weeks at a campsite (European-style – a lot different than the forest and campfire setup I think of when I think of American campgrounds) in France with C’s family.  The campsite was full of things for Read more…

Monachil – a gorge-ous hike in Andalucia, Spain

We have a big (our first!) multi-day hike in the Pyrenees planned for the end of June, so we bought a bunch of supplies, including new hiking shoes for everyone.  We needed to break them in, so we decided to Read more…

Staying in a cave house in Andalusia, Spain

In Andalucia, close to Granada, lies an area famous for its homes built directly into caves in the rocks.  This is also the site of one of the oldest settlements in Spain, dating back to the stone age.  However, the Read more…

A day trip to Pompeii, Italy

It is really easy to get from Rome to Pompeii, the ancient Roman city that was buried in ash by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD 79.  We woke up one morning during our stay in Rome and Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
