Mycenae and the Peloponnese Peninsula

While in Greece, if we were going to see old things, we might as well see REALLY old things! That was our logic anyway, so we made a trip to Mycenae, the home of a civilization that pre-dated the Greeks and peaked in the second millennium BC. To do the Read more…

Visiting Ancient Olympia, Greece

During our trip to Greece, one must-visit spot for us was Ancient Olympia on the Peloponnese peninsula. Especially exciting was visiting right as Olympic fever was ramping up for the Summer Olympics in Japan. We definitely felt the Olympic fever (and no, it wasn’t COVID 😉 ) Ancient Olympia We Read more…

Consulting the Oracle in Delphi, Greece

After doing a bit of island hopping, we took a ferry to the mainland of Greece and got ready to visit our fill of ancient Greek sites. The kids had been reading Percy Jackson and taking classes on Greek myths, so we were ready to go! After arriving at the Read more…

Island Time on Naxos, Greece

After our few days on Santorini, we headed on the Blue Star Ferry (the big, slow ferry – I would go as slow as necessary to avoid sea sickness!) for a two-hour ride to our next stop, the island of Naxos, Greece, the largest of the Cyclades island chain. With Read more…

Santorini, Greece. The perfect spot for…families??

We left Spain for the final time, and planned to head back to the United States for a visit before moving to England. The best way to get from Spain to Atlanta was through…Greece. Yup. That is thanks to COVID. But I don’t hate it because it finally got us Read more…

A Farewell to Spain

It is with great sadness that I report that after nearly four years, we have left Spain. This has been an absolutely amazing journey, and we have enjoyed it so much. Alas, reality calls, so we are moving on to…well, that is a story in an of itself, and when Read more…

Whistle Stop Tour of Spain

Hello – we are still here! We have just been in a bit of a travel slump lately. Actually, let me rephrase that, we have been in a travel BAN lately! We spent a large chunk of the last school year stuck in the Granada province here in Spain. Being Read more…

Lapland, Finland…the Highlight!

BIG, HUGE, GIANT DISCLAIMER: We are lazy. This trip was back at the end of 2019, pre-COVID, back when travel was possible and the thought of not easily being able to hop on a plane and go pretty much wherever we wanted was unfathomable. How many other things were unfathomable Read more…

Visiting Santa’s Home Turf in Lapland, Finland

After spending the first few days of our trip to Lapland, Finland in the small town of Luosto in our log cabin (complete with sauna), we headed for the bright lights of Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi is a town of around 60,000. It is the administrative capital of Lapland, but far more Read more…

Snow, Santa and Cynicism in Luosto, Finland

After months of travel around South America, we were back in Europe but we felt like we had one final trip in us before our big 2019 Travel Year was over. We had a few criteria in mind: we wanted to end our big travel adventure with a bang; we Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
