A Farewell to Spain

Whistle Stop Tour of Spain

Two For One Trip To Tenerife

The boys had (another!) long weekend in November so we took advantage of a cheap flight  to check out Tenerife in the Canary Islands. C had been to Tenerife many, many years before. The island is a very popular destination for Brits and, at least used to be, the destination Read more…

A Ski Weekend in Spain’s Sierra Nevada Mountains

We are not a skiing family but with a popular ski resort only an hour from our home in Southern Spain, it is hard to not at least give it a shot.  After a wet November for us, which was a snowy November up on the mountain, we decided to Read more…

Monachil – a gorge-ous hike in Andalucia, Spain

We have a big (our first!) multi-day hike in the Pyrenees planned for the end of June, so we bought a bunch of supplies, including new hiking shoes for everyone.  We needed to break them in, so we decided to head to Monachil, Spain, near Granada to a hike about Read more…

Staying in a cave house in Andalusia, Spain

In Andalucia, close to Granada, lies an area famous for its homes built directly into caves in the rocks.  This is also the site of one of the oldest settlements in Spain, dating back to the stone age.  However, the caves in this area are a bit more modern, dating Read more…

Three days with just one kid in Madrid

Continuing A’s super lucky run as a 9 year old whose parents take him to see awesome sporting events because they want to go themselves, we decided to get tickets to see the men’s and women’s professional tennis tournament in Madrid.  This tournament typically gets many of the top players, Read more…

A hike between villages in Las Alpujarras

While our friends were visiting us over their Spring Break, we took a day trip up to Las Alpujarras, a group of small villages in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Granada, Spain.  I read about this particular hike and it sounded amazing (and do-able with kids).  We Read more…

Around Southern Spain with Friends

We were so excited to have friends visit us during their Spring Break this year.  We had an absolute blast, with two sets of friends coming over the course of the week.  All the kids got along great, and we loved spending adult time together while the kids occupied themselves. Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
