Last but not least Yellowstone post – Mammoth Hot Springs

I will make a confession here – I have been excited to see the Mammoth Hot Springs at Yellowstone ever since I saw it depicted while riding on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster at Disney World.   The Mammoth Hot Springs (the real things – not the Disney Read more…

Yellowstone – Otherworldly Features

I wanted to blow off Yellowstone, claim it was all hype and since we had seen so many amazing places already, this was totally not worth the crowds and fanfare.  But…it really is all that.  But the crowds do suck. I wrote about the great day we had in the Read more…

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Yellowstone amazed us with all of its variety, and the variety included the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.  In fact, the yellow rock walls of the canyon gave Yellowstone its name! When we got to the parking lot in the morning around 10am, it was a little bit chaotic, but we Read more…

Yellowstone National Park – A Geyser Trifecta

We had planned to camp in Yellowstone, but during this trip we have come to realize that we are camping wimps.  We love to camp as long as it isn’t too cold, sunny, buggy or wet!  Since it was scheduled to be both cold and wet while in Yellowstone, C Read more…

Grand Teton – Jenny Lake – shuttle boats and waterfalls

The Tetons are so breathtaking to look at because of the geological forces at work in creating them.  Many of the National Park roads we have driven on have been winding roads on cliff edges, even in parks not known for having mountains, like Mesa Verde and Arches.   In Read more…

Grand Teton – Oxbow Bend and Taggart Lake

Our first morning in the park, we headed to Oxbow Bend.  This spot is famous for the way the Snake River reflects Mount Moran on a calm day, and for the animals that congregate there. We did get a calm morning to see the mountain reflected in the river, but Read more…

Jackson Hole and Grand Tetons

We drove from Rocky Mountain National Park to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We were going to spend four days in Grand Teton National Park, but decided it would be good to spend our first night in a hotel in civilization before heading to the parks.  It was a rainy day when Read more…

We have taken the boys on longer 1:1 trips before We have taken the boys on longer 1:1 trips before they get to high school. He decided he wanted to go to see orangutan in Sumatra. So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan
Nothing exciting to say about this - having fun wi Nothing exciting to say about this - having fun with the kids and seeing cool things en route to other places. Good times.
He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
