Recovering in Cusco, Peru

At just under two weeks, our stop in Cusco, Peru would be the longest of our South America trip so far…and we needed it! It had been almost three months since we left Spain (halfway through our six months of travel) and travel fatigue was setting in. Sadly, we got Read more…

High Altitude at Palccoyo Mountain in Peru

There is a so called “rainbow mountain” that is all the rage near Cusco. People hike for hours to get there, then take pictures (that are later enhanced to increase the brightness, I promise you!) in front of this colorful striped mountain. Well, it turns out there is another mountain, Read more…

A Rainy Visit to Machu Picchu

In our plans for our trip to South America, a visit to the New World Wonder of Machu Picchu was a must do. We had spent a week in Ollantaytambo, which is conveniently located near the train station that would take us to the bus stop at Aguas Calientes that Read more…

Exploring the Sacred Valley, Peru

To start our week in the Sacred Valley of Peru, we flew into the Cusco airport, then immediately left for the town of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Cusco is smack dab in the middle of the Andes mountains, at an elevation of about 3,400m (around 11,200 feet). This height Read more…

Beach Life in Los Organos, Peru

Mancora, Peru is a popular beach resort in northern Peru and the stop for our late night bus from Cuenca, Ecuador. Looking to get off the beaten track a little we stayed about a 30 minute taxi ride from Mancora in a small town called Los Organos. Our accommodation was Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
