Visiting Ancient Olympia, Greece

During our trip to Greece, one must-visit spot for us was Ancient Olympia on the Peloponnese peninsula. Especially exciting was visiting right as Olympic fever was ramping up for the Summer Olympics in Japan. We definitely felt the Olympic fever (and no, it wasn’t COVID 😉 ) Ancient Olympia We Read more…

The Road More Traveled in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Our second stop in Uruguay would also be our last stop in Uruguay, and our second-to-last stop on our whole South American adventure. We’ve been to a lot of amazing places in the continent and enjoyed both roads – the one more traveled and the one less traveled. In Uruguay, Read more…

The Last Straw in Iguazu Falls, Argentina

New country, new spelling of Iguazu and something new and different for this blog post… Puerto Iguazu is a small Argentinian town that sits on the border with both Brazil and Paraguay. The Iguazu Falls, especially on the Argentinian side, are truly spectacular and do earn the moniker of “Natural Read more…

World-Class Waterfalls in Iguassu, Brazil

We knew we’d come crashing down to earth after our stay in Rio, which came complete with nice hotel and chocolates on the pillow. What we didn’t know, however, was quite how hard that CRASH back into reality would be… With heavy heart and heavy luggage, we dragged ourselves away Read more…

Football, Food and Fun in Rio – Part 3 (Fun)

We really weren’t reaching for an alliterative title here – Rio was fun. The city was fun and happening, the people were always having fun and we all had fun too. More on the fun later, however, first we had work to do! We had to bag our fifth modern Read more…

Heading to the Atlantic – A week in Paraty, Brazil

We hadn’t originally planned to go to Brazil at all on this trip, but a few weeks ago a couple of things happened: First, we realized we might never be back to South America. No offense to an entire continent, but we were doing some really awesome adventures and at Read more…

Recovering in Cusco, Peru

At just under two weeks, our stop in Cusco, Peru would be the longest of our South America trip so far…and we needed it! It had been almost three months since we left Spain (halfway through our six months of travel) and travel fatigue was setting in. Sadly, we got Read more…

A Rainy Visit to Machu Picchu

In our plans for our trip to South America, a visit to the New World Wonder of Machu Picchu was a must do. We had spent a week in Ollantaytambo, which is conveniently located near the train station that would take us to the bus stop at Aguas Calientes that Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
