This summer we went to southern Africa and we went on some safaris and the first safari lodge we went to was Chobe national park. Day 1: We arrive at the airport and get picked up by a Chobe guide and we get taken to the lodge on a safari vehicle, which was very fun since it was our first time riding on one. We also got taken to the lodge with another family who were very nice and we talked on the way there.
When we first entered the park we didn’t many animals, but then we found impalas, and we were very excited to see them, and our guide told us they were called the mcdonalds of the African savannah because they were found everywhere and it looked like they had an M on their rear.
After we drove a bit deeper into the park and after seeing many more impalas we saw some elephants who looked very majestic and they were very fun to watch, especially for the first time.
End of Day 1: Once we arrived at the lodge and checked in. We unpacked and then headed for our first safari, which was on a boat. We were also with the same family we drove into the park with. The first animal we saw was a crocodile, a baby Nile crocodile and nearby to it were elephants drinking water and spraying themselves with dust to protect them from the sun and the flies.
After watching the elephants for a while we saw Hippos with their backs out of the water and then we saw a huge full sized Nile crocodile sitting next to the water.
We also saw a few more elephants drinking water and some more hippos.
After the encounter with those animals we didn’t see many other animals and we went back. After the boat ride we rested in our room for a while, then we went to dinner and we heard something that kind of sounded like a roar. Then we arrived at dinner and the people serving us told us that the sound was coming from lions. The dinner was very good and after that we went back to our room to go to bed.
Day 2: We went on a morning drive and saw some impalas and elephants, but other than that we didn’t see many other animals and it seemed like an unsuccessful drive for everyone that was driving in the morning. Then we had breakfast, which was really good and they had tons of food at the buffet. Next, we went back to our room and relaxed for a little bit and then we went on the midday boat ride and since the waves were pretty bumpy, many animals were not drinking water, so we saw mostly crocodiles and hippos. However on the way back we saw tons of elephants drinking water on the water’s edge.
After that we had lunch, which was pretty good and then we had a short time of relaxing before the night drive where we saw our first lions and we saw a lion stalking some prey but they heard and smelled the lion. Then we went back and had dinner and went to bed.
Day three: We were supposed to go on a boat ride in the morning but our guide said that they normally don’t see much on the morning boat ride so we went on the drive instead and we saw so many animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, etc.
Then we saw a herd of buffalo across the river so we went to investigate and we saw lions stalking the buffalo which was pretty cool and then the lions started chasing the buffalo and the caught one but it escaped and then the buffalo turned around and charged at the lion and then the lions turned around attacked the buffalo and it kept going like that for a while until we finally had to go and head back to the lodge.
Overall Chobe was a great place to visit and we recommend visiting because there are so many animals to see there.
