Hiking and Biking in Banff, Canada

Our last stop in the Canadian Rockies was the town of Banff, within Banff National Park. We had already spent time in the Lake Louise area of Banff, but after time in Jasper, we stayed in a few days in the Hidden Ridge Resort, sitting just above Banff town. We Read more…

Icefields Parkway III: Parker Ridge Trail Hike

While staying on the Icefields Parkway near Sunwapta Falls, we took a fantastic hike along from a trailhead just south of the Columbia Icefields Discovery Centre. The Early Bird Gets the parking Spot at Moraine Lake

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the Lake Louise area of Banff National Park is c-r-a-z-y. The parking lots fill up by 8am, and after that you are forced to wait in a long line at a park and ride lot. However, when I say the parking lots fill Read more…

The Turquoise Lakes of Banff National Park

During our Canada trip, we spent a few days exploring the Lake Louise area of Banff National Park.  This area is well known for its amazing turquoise colored lakes, which get their color from the glaciers. These glaciers grind the rocks below them, creating rock flour, which gets carried with Read more…

Unprepared in Scotland: a hike up Ben Lomond

During our week in Scotland, I decided I would like to get out and see some of the nice scenery, which we sometimes forget to do as we get busy just hanging out with family and friends.  Then, by some miracle, we ended up with weather like I’d never before Read more…

A Trip to Jordan: Visiting Petra

One of the big draws for us to go to Jordan was to visit Petra, named one of the 7 New Wonders of the World (this is the 3rd of the 7 New Wonders we have seen – the others are Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Colosseum in Rome.  We Read more…

Two For One Trip To Tenerife

A Hike Along Slovenia’s Vršič Pass

We spent few nights at a family hostel on Lake Jasna in the very northern part of Slovenia, just outside the mountains of Triglav National Park. The main activity for our time there was a drive and hike on the Vršič Pass.   The Vršič pass has a fascinating history.  This Read more…

Staying on a mountaintop pasture in Slovenia

Velika Planina, translated to “big pasture” in English, is, as described, a large pasture, located at the top of a mountain in the Kamnik Alps in Slovenia.  Traditionally (and still today), herdsmen would take their cows up to this big pasture to graze over the summer months. They built huts Read more…

So that is where we went! It was a tough trek but an amazing experience - including spotting a few orangutan in the wild. #travelwithkids #sumatra #orangutan

He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip He got to pick where he wanted to go for this trip. Back to Galapagos (he doesn’t remember it well from when we were there 5 years ago) but this time they went to Isabela island, and it by far surpassed anything we saw before. He might as well stop snorkeling now, cause I don’t think this will be beaten.
Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lot Summer trip to Southern Africa. In addition to lots of amazing animal sightings on safari, we couldn’t miss seeing Victoria Falls (from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides). Though to be be honest, it was a bit hard to see anything much of the time with so much water spraying everywhere! #victoriafalls #victoriafallszimbabwe #mosioatunya #thesmokethatthunders #travelwithkids #familytravel #zimbabwetravel
We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We took a short trip during the kids spring break. We have traveled with the kids a lot as they grew up but it is getting harder as the kids get older. They just don’t want to go anywhere. We are trying to compromise and take fewer, shorter and/or cooler trips. The teenager is hard to impress though. Hoping once he is a young adult and broke and on his own, he will come back to wanting to travel with us for the free trips 😝. Until then, we will try to give him more input on where and when we go. #sanfrancisco #travelwithkids #travelwithteens

Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We lo Wrapping up another summer trip to Scotland. We love the cool weather, long days of sunlight, fresh air and green fields when we visit Scotland in the summer. I love that the kids get this time with family and I know they will grow up and have great memories of their visits here. As we head back to hot, humid and uncomfortable summer in the US Deep South, we will look forward to next summer! #scotland #travelwithkids
While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided t While we were in Scotland this summer, I decided to book one quick little side trip, so did some research to find a good, easy destination to take one kid for a few days. Tallin, Estonia was not really a place I’d given much thought to, but I’m glad this was the place we ended up. Absolutely beautiful old town, easy to walk around, good food and an interesting history. Also loved having just one of the kids with me - we had a lot of fun together and he was a lot more willing to hang out with me when it was just the two of us somewhere new and exciting. Plus, wow it is much easier to get a table at a restaurant for 2 people than it is for 5! #travelwithkids #estonia #tallinn #familytravel
